You Tube hack

Hey, I just got this off a friend's blog and tested it. Very Cool.
It seems that you can force You Tube to deliver nearly "original quality" video by adding the following line to the end of the video you're watching:
&fmt=18
I don't know what it means, but when I played the State of Fire Breathing 1 side by side, regular and with this addition, the quality jump was remarkable. Slows the download quite a bit though...

Some of the youtube vids have an option to watch in high def. I imagine its related to that, but I don't have the time to test that theory.

Yeah, I'm totally getting a different load speed. Here's the link to the high-res version I'm looking at
    www.youtube.com/watch

If you right click the 'view in standard res' link you can see the two side by side.

I tried it on some of my videos and I definitely see a difference, espescially in the low light ones. I use a PC and I was using Internet Explorer. If all youtube videos can look that clear, why don't they?

Near as i can figure, they're trying to both save bandwidth and make sure that videos download at reasonable speeds. So, if you're using a 56K dialup, the quality is scaled down so that you get the video faster, but they might throw in a link to view in standard quality. If you go into your account settings, you can set it to always give best quality, but they're still not as good as this. Maybe it's supposed to be a debugging tool to allow them to see the original.
